Anesthetic management of patients with morbid obesity during bariatric surgery presents a number of problems, including “difficult” vascular access, “difficult” airways, increased risk of aspiration, changes in the pharmacokinetics of anesthetics, and an increased risk of postoperative respiratory depression associated with opioids.
