Fees

The publication of articles in the Journal is free of charge.

Scope

Annals of Intensive Care accepts manuscripts not published earlier in Russian and English academic literature. The articles must describe current trends and research in the field of anesthesiology and intensive care in Russia and worldwide. Journal accepts manuscript in Russian and English.

General statement

Before submitting the manuscript, the authors should read the publication ethics policy of the Journal (https://intensive-care.ru/en/about/publishing-ethics-and-malpractice-statement/#et1 ) and follow it in preparing the manuscript, which they shall later confirm in writing in the Covering Letter and the License Agreement.

Scientific articles could be submitted by the Journal’s editors and members of the editorial board. Such manuscripts should go through standard double-blind pee-review process. If blinding is not technically possible, then the fact (unblinded peer-review) shall be disclaimed in the conflict of interest.

The manuscript for review of compliance with Journal requirements and peer review must be sent in archive, contain four documents:

  1. Whole file of article in MS Word, which will include the title of manuscript, abstract, text of manuscript, pictures, tables, reference list
  2. A Cover letter file with information about the article in MS Word, which will include the type of publication, title of manuscript, list of authors of the publication, information about affiliated organizations, the corresponding author, information about each author (including full name, position, ORCID, telephone, e-mail, personal signature), statement of conflict of interest, authors’ contribution, informed patient consent, study approval by the ethics committee, study registration number, funding information, acknowledgments, etc. according to the template (download here)
  3. Scan of a printed cover letter signed by all authors (as a single file in pdf format)
  4. Scan of the signed copy of the Transfer of Copyright agreement (as a single file in pdf format). You can download the form the Agreement here (download here)

After accepting the publication and successfully completing the scientific review phase, it may be necessary to provide drawings in the format of high-quality graphic files (see below).

Annals of Intensive Care adopted double blind peer review (reviewers do not know the authors, and vice versa). When considering, the editorial office necessarily checks the materials using the Antiplagiat (market leader in text reuse/plagiarism  detection in Russia and the CIS) system.

Types of manuscripts

We welcome manuscripts in the following areas:

  • intensive and emergency care for the critically ill or injured patient,
  • multidisciplinary practice in perioperative medicine, especially in high-risk surgical patients,
  • pain management,
  • new technologies and modification of standard therapeutic procedures and techniques in intensive care,
  • physiological and pharmacological aspects of critical care and anesthesia,
  • residency teaching and training, continuous medical education

Herein is a summary of typically accepted types of papers and the requirements for them:

Since the Journal adopted double blind peer review to hide personal data about authors and organizations, personalized information is indicated in the Cover letter only. The text of the publication indicates only the title and factual material, without information that can identify the authors of the article.

Cover Letter

A cover letter to the manuscript includes:

1. Type of publication:

  • Review
  • Original research
  • Clinical research
  • Review and case report
  • Brief message
  • Letter to the editor

2. Title of publication

3. The list of authors (initials, surname) with an indication of their affiliations

4. A numbered list of affiliated organizations (official name, must comply with the official document) with a postal code and full postal address

5. Information about the corresponding author:

  • Full last name first name middle name
  • Academic degree, title
  • Position and unit in affiliated organization(s)
  • Full mailing address with correspondence index
  • Contact phone number
  • Contact e-mail

6. Information about each author (include corresponding author):

  • Full last name first name middle name
  • Position and unit in affiliated organization(s)
  • ORCID of the author (required)
  • Contact phone number
  • Contact e-mail (if available)
  • Personal signature of the author

7. Conflict of Interest Statement

Clarification regarding any potential or actual conflict of interest of the authors. Any communications, financial relationships, financial or political interests in the manuscript in whole or in part, including labor and other obligations that may lead to the concealment or intentional misrepresentation of the data or adversely affect the interpretation, are considered a conflict of interest and should be clearly stated. Please note that conflicts of interest do not impede a publication, though failure to disclose one does.

We encourage authors to use updated ICMJE form (Updated February 2021) and to attach it filled to the Cover letter http://www.icmje.org/disclosure-of-interest/

8. Contribution of each author to the preparation of the publication

It is necessary to reflect the degree of participation of each author in the following mandatory stages of work on the publication:

  • development of the concept of the article,
  • receipt and analysis of evidence,
  • writing and editing the text of the article,
  • verification and approval of the text of the article,
  • and also you can indicate any other appropriate participation.

The Journal follows Authorship criteria established by ICMJE. We also encourage author to detail their diverse contribution detailed description of their contributions to the published work using CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) whereas the corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that the contribution descriptions are accurate and agreed by all authors.

9. Information on informed consent to the publication of information to identify the identity of the patient(s).

10. Information on approval of the study by the local ethics committee

A complete, unambiguous indication of the ethics committee and details of the approving document are preferred.

11. Registration number of the study if it is included in the registers.

12. Funding

A brief list of funding sources for the results reported in the paper, as well as the publication process itself (e.g. a commercial organization, a foundation or government grant, etc.).

13. Acknowledgments

Optional. You can post gratitude here to any persons or organizations who helped in your work.

Preparing your manuscript

The text of the publication should include:

  1. Title of publication
  2. Structured abstract (up to 300 words): Introduction; Objectives Material and Methods; Results Conclusion(s)
  3. Keywords
  4. Text of publication
  5. List of references (references are ordered as they appear in the text)
  6. Tables (if any) with an informative heading and a breakdown of all columns / rows
  7. Pictures (if any) with an informative name
  8. All abbreviations used in the text should be deciphered at the first mention

Requirements for the design of the text of the publication

Language of publication: Russian or English. The manuscript must be submitted in Microsoft Word format.

Check: before sending to the Journal, the publication text should be double-checked for grammatical, spelling, and semantic errors.

Preferred format: font Times New Roman (or Times), 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing, alignment of all text to the left, A4 sheet size, standard margins (left 3 cm, right 1.5 cm, upper and lower 2 cm).
Pages must be numbered. The maximum length of the manuscript, including references, tables, and figures, is 12 pages for original articles, 15 pages for reviews / clinical lectures, and 6 pages for describing a clinical case / short report.

The title should be clear, concise, and sufficiently reflect the essence of the publication. Use 18 point bold for your article title; font size 16 and 14 pt for first- and second-level headings respectively.

The abstract (maximum 300 words) of the original study should begin with a brief background and statement of the goals / objectives of the study, and then materials and methods and end with the results. The final sentence should state the main findings of the study in the most understandable terms.

Keywords: 3 to 10 words. To select keywords, it is preferable to use the terms included in the MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) thesaurus.

The main body of the text: you should start with a brief introduction describing the meaning of the article. In the case of an original study, the main part of the article should follow a general structured approach to the description of materials and methods, results, discussion and conclusion.

Quote in the text
References are ordered as they appear in the text. Titles of all cited articles are required. All articles in the list of references should be cited in the text and, conversely, all references cited in the text must be included in the list. Citations should be given in square brackets – [1], [2-5], etc.

Tables and figures
All tables and figures should be numbered in arabic numerals with a heading and table/figure legend that would be easy to read and comprehend. Please make sure that table data is in line with the numbers in the body of the text (but does not simply duplicate them).

Reduce graphical material to a minimum (unless the nature of your study dictates otherwise). Photographs should be rich in contrast, illustrative artwork should be clear and of high resolution (at least 300dpi).

Graphs should be labeled on the ordinate and abscissa with the parameter or variable being measured, the units of measure, and the scale.
Units of measurement should be metric and correspond to SI (Le Système International d’Unités).

At the stage of the initial review, all images and tabular material should be inserted at the place of mention in the main text of the file. References to illustrative material in the text should be made out as “(Fig. 1)” and “(Tab. 1)”.

After receiving a positive decision on the possibility of publishing the manuscript, it will be necessary to provide graphic material in high quality suitable for printing. Color or black and white images should be contrasting, well readable.
The use of jpg, tif or pdf formats is recommended.
The absolute minimum for acceptable resolution is 300 dpi, although a higher resolution is preferable. Keep in mind that image files must be labeled with numbers corresponding to the listing in the manuscript. In addition, the file description should contain the title of your image, as it will be displayed in the document (for example: “Fig. 1. Elliot Proctor Jocelyn, MD (1869-1962).”).

Abbreviations and Acronyms
All abbreviations used in the text should be deciphered at the first mention. Abbreviations should be avoided.

References

Authors are responsible for correctness and completeness of the data provided in the list of references.

References should be organized in accordance with the requirements of the AMA (http://www.amamanualofstyle.com) in the Vancouver style.

Given the requirements of international citation systems, such as Web of Science and Scopus, a list of references (References) is included in the English block of the article and, accordingly, should be given not only in the original language, but also in Latin (Roman alphabet).

All links to journal publications must contain DOI (Digital Object Identifier, a unique digital identifier for the article in CrossRef). Check for DOI articles on the website http://search.crossref.org/ or https://www.citethisforme.com. To get DOI you need to enter the name of the article in English in the search box. The last site, in addition to DOI, automatically generates the correct bibliographic writing of the article in English in the style of AMA citation. The vast majority of foreign journal articles and many Russian-language articles published after 2013 are registered in the CrossRef system and have a unique DOI.

A complete list of all authors should be provided in each bibliographic record. Please put “et al.” designation after the third name if the article cited has more than 4 authors. Do not shorten the names of your quotes. Abbreviated journal names must be consistent with the MedLine catalog. If the journal is not indexed by MedLine, please provide its full name.
